Bitcoin lifts above $50,000 for first time in volatile trading

A few moments ago Bitcoin rose above 50,000 for the first time ever. The move came quite suddenly after a few hours of the lead cryptocurrency languishing around 49k this morning. The price action through 50k has been really quite volatile and sporadic as perhaps might be expected when a new milestone is reached. Of course it has risen further into uncharted territory now today, so no attempt will be made here to try and plot where exactly this new bull charge might come to rest.
